Proud to March with CA (Pride 2015)

On June 28th, Community Access participated in New York’s Heritage of Pride March for the first time! This year’s Pride March not only honored the past struggles and sacrifices of the LGBTQ community, but also celebrated the progress we have made towards equal rights. In particular, joy over last Friday’s Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage throughout the US permeated all of Sunday’s festivities!

As a gay male with a mental health diagnosis, I understand first-hand the difficulty of not falling prey to the endless depravity plaguing not only the LGBTQ community, but our society at large. Community Access prides itself on the work we do to advocate for the mentally challenged and homeless – it was only fitting to formally let our presence be known within a similarly misunderstood LGBTQ community during this year’s Pride March.

To get ready for the big event, other members of Community Access and I designed t-shirts, organized sign-ups, fundraised and more!

To me, Community Access’s successful participation in last Sunday’s Pride March demonstrates our mission to provide individuals with the basic right of self-determination through Housing, Health, and Human Rights. We are already looking forward to next year!
