Housing Counselor

Community Access's transitional housing model helps people with psychiatric disabilities move from shelters and hospitals into the community.  All sites provide on-site staffing 24 hours a day as well as individual counseling, goal planning and linkage to outside programs and services. 

The focus of the work is to help people regain basic skills such as negotiating the public transportation system, budgeting and organizing their time around activities they enjoy, and help them adjust to a community setting.  The job responsibilities of Housing Counselor include house management, and maintaining the cleanliness of the site; observation and documentation of residents’ behaviors and providing the necessary assistance.  The Housing Counselor orders and stocks supplies; monitors medications as needed; assists with meal coordination and distribution, etc.  Additional duties include clerical and administrative tasks such as answering phones, photocopying, etc.

Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must have minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED); must be fingerprinted and cleared by the Office of Mental Health (OMH); have a commitment to recovery oriented practice; be skilled in conflict mediation/negotiation and have an assertive approach to problem solving; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to utilize various computer programs, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel, etc.

The available positions are per-diem (scheduled as needed) at an hourly pay rate of $11.00.
