The Art Collective is a full service art studio that offers artists not only professional instruction, but helps many of our talented members gain access to the New York City art market. A certified teaching artist provides instruction in a wide range of mediums including acrylic painting, watercolors, printmaking, collage and book arts.
Book arts, the process of producing handmade books and boxes, has opened up new and unexpected channels of communication for consumers, many of whom have had difficulty expressing their ideas and emotions. Because it is a medium that combines text and imagery, artists are free to communicate their thoughts, experiences, dreams and fears through the work.
Hundreds of pieces of original art produced by members of the Collective have been sold in galleries and art shows and many more are on display at Community Access’ housing and program sites. In 2009, art pieces created by member of the Art Collective were accepted in three major competitive art exhibitions and handmade artists books are currently for sale at the St. Mark's Book Shop in the East Village.
