Since 1988, East Village Access has filled an important niche for people who have had their lives disrupted by mental illness and need the support of others who believe that recovery from illness is possible. East Village Access has been an "open door" to thousands of people seeking some of life's most basic amenities, like friendship, new skills, dignity, and creative expression.
On October 1, East Village Access made the transition from a clubhouse to a PROS (Personalized Recovery Oriented Services) Program. PROS is a recovery program for adults with psychiatric disabilities, designed to provide a comprehensive array of services and treatment within the same program, to facilitate recovery and wellness, while participants achieve their goals.
Participants in the program work with staff to develop their own goals, select the services that would best help them achieve those goals, and set their own pace for recovery. PROS creates hope, recovery, and increased opportunities for community involvement and integration, through skill development, psychiatric care, education, employment, housing, and social supports. Participants in PROS are involved in many aspects of the operation of the program, including facilitation of workshops, and development of personalized plans for services.
Our diverse services are stimulating, interactive, and participant-driven. They include learning basic skills for living, gaining knowledge about resources and opportunities in the community, wellness, nutrition, smoking cessation, symptom management, medication management, information on self-help, benefits and financial management assistance, routine health screening, clinical counseling and therapy, and much more!
To apply for services, visit East Village Access, at its new home at 242 East 2nd Street (near Avenue C), or call us at 212-780-9008.
