Director Of Howie the Harp, Peer Advocacy Center

Reports to:Deputy Executive Director

The Center, Founded in 1995 by survivors of the psychiatric system, promotes self-help, empowerment and equal opportunity for people with psychiatric disabilities and histories of trauma, incarceration, homelessness and/or substance abuse; it enables survivors to establish careers in mental health/human services through advocacy, job development, training, on-the-job experience and peer support.

The Director provides leadership and support to Center staff in maintaining and expanding organizational supports and programs that enhance training and permanent employment/career opportunities.

The key responsibilities of the Director are to supervise senior staff in implementing the Center’s vision, ensuring the activities are consistent with that vision; maintain a safe and secure work environment with personal and professional growth opportunities for all members; increase collaboration across programs and a team approach to problem solving; collaborate with key stakeholders in developing and implementing a five year strategic plan to guide the center’s future growth; develop and maintain relationships with strategic partners; collaborate with the Development Department in fundraising activities; establish personal and professional networks; benchmark best practices; develop and implement strategies to increase the local, state and national and international profile of the center; identify legal and other barriers to the employment of graduates or other consumers and develop strategies to eliminate these barriers; and to develop and coordinate center training collaborative.

Director of Facilities

Reports to:Deputy Executive Director

The Facilities Director is responsible for the physical maintenance and day-to-day operations of both residential (owned and scatter site housing) and commercial (clubhouse / training) facilities. Provide safe and well maintained living/working environment for tenants, program participants and employees. Direct the daily activities of the facilities department. Develop and oversee appropriate policy and control framework. Oversee the functioning of building systems including mechanical, fire/life safety, elevators etc. Oversee contractors for facilities repair and renovation projects. Management of maintenance staff, inventory management, policy and procedure development, implementation and enforcement, ensures compliance with statutory requirements and building codes, management of vehicle pool and expense budgets, and staff recruitment and training.

Qualified candidates must have 5 to 10 years of experience in facility management; administrative experience with a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience and a Bachelors degree preferred.

Director of Development

Community Access is currently undergoing a comprehensive development audit and planning process with a goal of strengthening CA’s current support program and laying the foundation for efforts to expand the current support and raise capital resources over the next five years.

To help realize this goal, CA seeks a dynamic, creative, entrepreneurial Director of Development, who will be responsible for creating and implementing a strategic fundraising plan that will provide a reliable and expanding source of private financial support.

The Director is expected to work closely with the Board of Directors and Executive Director to develop and implement an annual fundraising plan; manage development budget to ensure that agency maintains a reasonable fundraising ratio; develop a working knowledge of our current donor base and develop strategies to support and cultivate relationships with past and current supporters; research and evaluate potential corporate, foundation, and individual giving opportunities and develop and marketing plan for each segment; cultivate new donors through one-on-one meetings, public presentations, letters and written proposals, and other mediums as appropriate; train and support Board and staff in donor cultivation; coordinate all press, public relations and public education activities and produce annual report.

Candidate should have a minimum Bachelors degree in related area; minimum of five years of successful professional fund-raising experience with a proven track record of securing major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations; expertise and experience working with a Board of Directors; one to three years of supervisory experience, preferred; advanced analytical and innovative problem solving abilities; and demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Building Superintendent

Department:Operations
Reports to:Field Supervisor

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of live-in Building Superintendent to work at 1022 Reverend James Polite Avenue, part of Supportive Housing Program in the Bronx.

The Building Superintendent is responsible for the daily maintenance, repairs, and building code compliance as it relates to local, state, federal, and governing codes and agency policies and procedures. The primary goal of this position is to provide a safe and adequate living/working environment for the tenants and assigned staff of the designated building. The essential functions for this position include; maintaining overall building as it relates to heating, hot water, heating, hot water, and ventilation systems, sewer drains and traps; performing minor repairs; and maintain records/logs.

Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent required; at least two (2) years training or three (3) years works experience in related trade; at least one (1) year supervisory experience; must have experience in one or more of the following fields: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, etc; must have working knowledge of equipment installation and repair, to include HVAC systems; must be able to operate and maintain appropriate machines such as floor buffer, trash compactor, snow blowers, etc. Spanish speaking is a plus.

Maintenance Worker

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the Full-time position of Maintenance Worker to work in our Supportive Housing Programs, located in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Bronx.

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for the daily cleaning of the building to ensure that a safe and adequate working environment is provided to the tenants and staff at all times. The responsibilities include cleaning all public/common areas of the building and offices daily, trash disposal; maintaining adequate bathroom supplies; preparing apartments for move-ins including painting; assisting with routine repairs and snow removal.

Qualified candidates must have minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; one (1) year training or two years work experience in related trades; knowledge of appropriate cleaning agents; ability to operate and maintain appropriate machines such as buffer, wet/dry vacuum, etc..

Front Desk Receptionist

The Front Desk Receptionist is expected to interact with tenants, guests and staff in a professional and courteous manner, while monitoring the safety of the tenants and the building. This includes greeting tenants and guests in professional, courteous and hospitable manner; ensuring visitor sign-in policy is carried out; conducting house runs; record activities in desk log; and monitoring Fire Alarm Station.

Employment Specialist

The Educational Specialist is responsible for providing tenants in all of the agency’s Supportive Housing programs with services to assist and support them in establishing and attaining educational and training goals. These services include outreach, assessment, resource identification and development, educational instruction, workshop facilitation, skill development, general information and referral. In addition it is expected that the Educational Specialist will work collaboratively with service coordinators in the supportive housing programs to identify tenants’ educational and training needs and to devise strategies for addressing those needs.

Qualified candidates should have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). Bachelor’s degree in related field, and three years relevant experience; or Associate’s degree in related field and five years relevant experience; two years experience working with mental health consumers, formerly homeless and persons with histories of drug/alcohol abuse; previous supervisory experience, preferred; must be fingerprinted and cleared by the Office of Mental Health (OMH); knowledge of community resources specifically related to education or training services; commitment to recovery oriented practice; and bilingual Spanish-speaking, preferred.

Senior Social Worker

The Senior Social Worker is responsible to work with senior support staff (Nurse Practitioner, Nutritionist, Substance Abuse Specialist, etc) to assure that well integrated services are available for tenants with multiple needs; provide oversight that services and records meet or exceed agency’s and funders’ standard for overall quality and frequency of services; provide recovery oriented support services and outreach to assigned program participants, as defined by program and contractual requirements. The social worker will carry a partial caseload as needed, provide assessment and referral services to tenants in crisis and assist in crisis intervention and conflict resolution.

Qualified candidates should have a C.S.W. with three years post master’s experience, preferred; minimum of three years experience in providing case management services; previous supervisory experience, preferred; must be fingerprinted and cleared by the Office of Mental Health (OMH); and have knowledge of psychiatric disabilities and of substance abuse.

Maintenance Mechanic

The essential job functions of the Maintenance Mechanic are to assist with processing repair requests generated from the work order system; assist with making routing repairs to apartments and facilities, as needed and directed; assist with monitoring and inspecting equipment daily; maintain shop, work areas, tools and supply inventories in good order; assist in identifying and reporting problem areas throughout apartments and facilities; assist with apartment and agency moves, as directed; provide back up to superintendent during absence of maintenance workers, as needed and directed; assist with preparing apartments for new occupancy, to include general cleaning and painting; assist with annual agency-wide inventory of equipment and supplies, etc.

Qualified candidates must have minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; at least one-year technical training and one year work experience in one or more of the building trades; possess the aptitude and skills for work in masonry, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc; good communicational and interpersonal skills; basic math skills; ability to work overtime hours, as needed; and must be able to lift and carry items, which weigh up to 100lbs. regularly.
