Community Access is a not-for-profit agency, helping people with psychiatric disabilities make the transition from shelters and hospitals to independent living.  We provide safe, affordable housing and support services, and we advocate for the rights of people to live without fear or stigma.

On May 6, 2008 Community Access celebrated 34 years of building homes, hopes and futures for New Yorkers in need. This year’s event, held at the Helen Mills Theater, was chaired by David Kuperberg, President of Cooper Square Realty and we were thrilled to honor Stuart Hankin and Priscilla Almodovar.

Mr. Hankin is the Vice President of Commercial & Industrial Sales for the Energy Marketing Department of Hess Corporation. Hess has been a long-time supporter of the work of Community Access.

Ms. Almodovar is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the New York State Housing Finance Agency (HFA), the State of New York Mortgage Agency (SONYMA), the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation (AHC) and their affiliated Agencies and subsidiaries in January 2007.

In her first year in office, Ms. Almodovar began to transform the way the Agencies do business by focusing on their statutory mandate to create affordable housing opportunities for New Yorkers. Under her leadership, HFA in 2007 shifted its resources and increased by three-fold the number of affordable units it financed throughout the State—to almost 4,000 units! David Walsh accepted the honor on behalf of Ms. Almodovar, who was called away to Albany on related business.

Congratulations to this year’s honorees, and thank you once again to all the generous supporters who helped make this event a success.
